Trump has already crossed the boundaries of the law. He is beyond simply complaining, he is committing crimes and inciting others to break the law as well. He should be called a coup plotter and treated as such.

The media are failing the US again by not calling Trump’s actions what they really are, an attempted coup. A coup from the top, a self-coup, yet, still a coup. The American media do not understand that the Ruler can stage a Coup by eliminating the other powers to remain, itself, in power after the end of his term, or to assume absolute power.

History has dozens of examples. Adolf Hitler staged a self-coup in 1933. He accused the parliament of treason, took away their power to legislate and gave it to himself. The President of the German Government, intimidated, lowered his head.

In 1993, Boris Yeltsin, elected President, got on a tank to order the dissolution of the Congress of Soviets, which had decided to continue Gorvachev’s democratic reform. Once the Congress was canceled, Yeltsin’s power became absolute and the Great Piñata began, the awarding of all Russian assets to a group of private citizens, practically cost-free, beginning the era of the oligarchs that continues with Putin, direct heir to that self-coup.

Venezuela’s Maduro also staged a self-coup while President to eliminate Congress. He continues to govern without checks.

Trump’s attempted self-coup is a classic: he refuses to accept the validity of the electoral process, rejects the results that gave Biden more than 7 million more votes and almost 100 more electoral votes, and demands that the Governors and Secretaries of State of the Republican States order the Legislatures to disobey the law and to declare him the winner.

Trump has already crossed the boundaries of the law. He is beyond simply complaining, he is committing crimes and inciting others to break the law as well. He should be called a coup plotter and treated as such.
